I bought my truck used, it has every option except moon roof and back up camera. I'm not cutting a hole in the roof so I'm putting in a camera. Does an '09 camera/emblem fit in the recess of an '08 gate or do I have to use the handle? I've been looking at several forums and can't find that answer.

 

A trip to the parts department of your local Ford dealership might help. If the part fits, I'd think it would show up that way in their books as the same part number for the model year ranges you are looking at.

 

Ford parts doesn't help. '09 and up the camera is mounted in the emblem. '08 the camera was mounted in the handle. My handles are all body color, I thought it would be easier to go with the emblem. That way I don't have to get parts painted and hope they match.

 

I have seen other posts where the folks have installed the emblem/camera in their '04 to '08 trucks, so it would have to be the same then, as you stated their was no offering of an emblem/camera for these years, so it came from an '09 and higher.

 

It fits. They are marketed on E-bay for our trucks. Also there are tailgate handles that have a handle built into it marketed for our trucks similar to what I understand the raptor has. There is a kit on e-bay for around $300 complete with wire harness but it is for a bolt on of a 09-14 you would have to figure out where to plug what in for power and video on the other end. The emblem comes off, and 2 odd shaped nuts are put into a square hole under the double sided adhesive under your tailgate and that is the bolt that the screws use to mount the camera and back plate of the 7" camera emblem in place of the 9" emblem.

 

I posted a write up on this earlier today. I installed the 09 emblem on my 07 king ranch this weekend and it looks works great. Go to my sig and you should be able to view the post. Kit was only $200 on eBay and worked great with my aftermarket HU.
