Quick question.
I towed my wife's car a dodge intrepid on a tandem axle trailer from Louisiana to Connecticut at about 75-80 the entire way... No issues at all. On really flat areas or down long hills I would even turn the O/D back on...
It's up to your foot but I would say 65-70 for the trany's sake. I pull a 20' boat with a 60 gal. fuel tank, never use OD. I do this about every weekend of the summer, usually stay around 65 for safety and fuel costs.
Traditionally, above 55 mph with overdrive off will create a lot of drag and engine braking... I would not exceed 70mph with OD off personally... As stated above, on the downhills and flat lands, you can put OD back on to maintain speed... On the uphills once momentum is lost, shut OD off and climb the hill... If you want to baby your truck while towing you should be putting OD off and on numerous times as the lay of the land suggests. On long hauls I would try to keep it on as much as possible... Always try to stay a couple thousand feet ahead of the terrain...
