Default Questions about OD

So I read on this forum and other f150 forums that people us OD a lot. Now 90% of the threads people aren't using it for towing. I am new to the f150 world but been in Jeeps for years. Any insight on this would be nice. Thanks guys.

I have used it as an engine brake before, its good to keep your truck from picking up speed downhill.

Leave the overdrive on except when towing up hills or grades. Your owners manual descrides the dos and don'ts of the overdrive.

Don;t have an owners manual? search for one...they can be had as a PDF file.

Why whould I leave it on? I have always thought it was just for towing? What effect does it have by leaving it on?

then your truck starts up it is on, when you hit the button, it actually turns overdrive off.

That is what I was talking about, I guess I was just thinking differentially about what off and on actually were

OD off you have the effect of gearing down like you would a manual tranny. I turn it off sometimes in heavy stop and go traffic. It help's out with 35" tires and when you get up to 50-60 mph and let off the drawback from the exhaust sound's great!

If you tow with the od on you will burn up the tranny faster. People use the OD because they think it will help save gas because the engine does rev as high. Problem is the truck will constantly be shifting and downshifting. Save the tranny and don't worry about the gas.
