Default Question for the wiring gurus!!!!!!

So my friend and I are going to be installing these soon.

Under the front wells and under the front seats. Originally I was just going to wire them to the cigarette lighter and then to the switch, but my wife came up with an idea. Why not wire it so that when you open the doors they come on.

My question is can I wire these to come on when the door is open without tearing into the head liner and wire them to the dome light? Or do I have to go that route with the wire? Also if I do wire them to come on when the doors open can I still wire them to the switch?

im guessing there is a fuse for interior lighting... you could tap into that and wire a switch from there... why do you want a switch if your gona have it open with your doors?

I just want to have the option of turning it on whenever I want my friends an ase certified mechanic he just doesn't want to tear into my head liner to make it work with the doors. So I thought that I would come here and ask the fellas on the forum their expertise.

Subscribed. I plan to do the same thing and I'm interested in seeing how you do it. Seems like the thing is to find the door switch wire and use that to trigger a relay to illuminate the lights. Or, find the wire running up into the headliner to the dome light and tap into that. With a relay you can also use a manual switch to turn them on too.

You could always wire them into the door triggers. I would utilize a relay to switch them off and on. I think using the dome light would be best though.

So where exactly are the door triggers located? And I have a switch that I plan on putting into the area where the cigarette lighter is. So can I utilize both or do I have to choose?

I believe they are built into the door latch.

You can do both. You need to use a 5 pin mini ISO relay that has two triggers. Costs like $5. Look in the "how to" for reverse light projects (there's only a couple). Those describe how to use to relay to have both a manual switch and another event trigger a light.

I'll post a link to one of those posts when I get to a PC. In the mean time, have a look at this:
