Default Question on Fuel Filter Change?

I have done some research on steps to change a fuel filter in my 06 XLT and it seems pretty easy! Was just curious if I have to turn the fuel pump off or not? I have seen some threads that say to do it and others that dont mention it. If anyone has experience please just let me know what steps are needed to shut fuel pump off! Thanks in advance!

I didnt, i poked a hole in the filter with a nail to relieve the pressure and changed it out, it took about 10 minutes.

There are a few different ways to bleed off the fuel pressure before you take the filter off. The by the book way is to attach a fuel pressure gauge at the fuel rail and bleed off the pressure with the bleed off valve. You could also take the fuel pump relay out, start the truck, and let it run out of gas. Same theory but with the inertia shutoff switch under the dash.
