Default Question and a clunk.

First I have a question for everyone because I can't seem to get a straight answer. Should the cv axles on our trucks be turning while in 2wd? Because mine are. This brings me to my next issue/question. Every once in a while lately while in reverse and turning the wheel there will be a clunk sound coming from the front of my truck seems to be the driver side. It does not happen while going forward only reverse. I thought maybe ujoint but checked those and there is no play at all. I just recently replaced lower and upper ball joints. There is no play in the sway bar end links. Any ideas appreciated?

No the CV shafts should not be turning under power when in 2wd with the engine on. The locking hubs use engine vacuum when the engine is on to UNLOCK the hubs for 2wd. When you want 4wd the vacuum is disconnected and hubs are locked. Engine off there is no vacuum to the hubs so they lock, don't get this confused that it is not working it is.
