Default pull heads on 2005 5.4

hi new here is it possible to pull heads with out pulling motor or body 2005 5.4 4x4.any special tools or proceduers.

Step 1 from the service manual:

All cylinder heads
  1. Remove the engine.

its just hard to beleive that body -motor has to be pulled

I agree. I haven't seen anyone do a writeup on pulling the heads in the engine bay. Maybe the Haynes or Chilton manuals have the step by step still in the truck.

Its not hard to believe when you look at how the engine is situated under the dash.

Take photos and document each step you make. I used to be a flat rate mechanic for Audi years ago. To pull a trans on an early car they wanted the trans/differential pulled as a unit and then take the trans off the diff when it was on the floor. We figured out how to do the job pulling the trans and leaving the diff in the car. Lets see how you do wthe the heads...Keep us posted.

I've personally seen the passenger side head come out without removing the engine, I would assume driver side would be pretty similar...

local shop pulled my heads. saw it half way thru and they did not have to pull the motor. won't be easy tho, enyone whos changed the back plugs knows how tight it is.

well just finished and alls well.did have to pull drivers fender well.bigger job than thought .still love my f150.
