Default Projectors with HID's

Need new head lights, I'm looking at these.

http://www.protuninglab.com/04fof1duaney2.html

I'm assume these are the projectors they reccomend against using HID's in correct? Is the main reason just the blinding/light scatter issue? They say the the kit is pre installed, can I uninstall it and simply run regular bulbs if the hid's are just to blinding for oncoming traffic? Can these lights be retro fit with real HID projectors?

If it is a true projector for hids you won't have scattered light or be annoying, however, I would run away from those. They don't look well built. Check the FS/T section, there are lights for sale there once in a while that are already modded with good projectors.

That's the thing I don't think these are the proper HID projectors. They don't have the proper cut off for an HID bulb from what I under stand. You don't think they are decent quality? I would be resealing any lights I buy just in case, but I thought these looked alright. The original price if not "doctored" also points to a decent light. I'm having issues finding headlights I'm happy with. I would like HID, but it seems the only way to properly do that is by doing a retro fit. Not really that interested in doing that. But also don't want to be "that guy" on the road everybody wants to kill because of his blinding lights.

I have seen those lights in my searching. How do you like them? Those aren't HID bulbs are they? I was under the impression that those lights were no better then the rest of the aftermarket projectors for running HID'S.

I was about to buy an HID kit for my projector headlights but i was strongly advised against it as well.
a friend of mine was going to buy some headlights from a guy in town that were brand new, he wanted to see how they looked on a vehicle so he asked the guy to install them on his car before he drove over, by the time he drove over the projector lenses were melted by the HIDs inside

-HIDs are hot-

needless to say my friend didn't buy them and that guy lost money

HID's actually run cooler than most halogen bulbs do in most cases. The guy must have had higher wattage HID bulbs then you can safely run. 35 watt as a rule is always safe. 55 watt I have heard can cause menting issues. In fog lights exspecially.

I put mine in the oven and ripped them all apart.(cheapo ebay headlights).. I wanted true HID projectors and some high end stuff so I put in projects from a mercedes E-class and then wired my own HID system courtesy of Diode Dynamics for parts... but I liked the R8 LED look

Lights it up like a runway.....

And to whoever thought they had HID's and melted the lenses is full of it... or they got had...HID's run ALOT cooler then halogens.... (by like 3-5 times cooler) (by design...much like a flourscent vs. an incandescent)
(Engineer for a living)

APO-f150- please do a bit more homework next time on this as your statement on HID vs. Halogen is scientifically and blantently false. (even 55w analog balasts will be cooler then normal 9008 halogens) If your HID's melted a halogen lense.... the halogen itself would have started a massive fire in 1/4 of the time. I run 35W digital balasts and the headlight housing lense its cool to the touch until I turn on my halogen brights...

Perfect horizontal cut off

Ah, thanks for the info. I'm not sure I want to go to all that work of doing a retro fit. And I don't feel like paying a company $500 to do it either. Cause either way I need lights. My stock ones are toast. The lens' are peeling off. The lights I posted are out of the question now, they don't have the CCFL halo rings, just the dimmer standard ones. So I'll keep looking. And probably end up running a decent halogen bulb instead of HID's.

You might do a search for the H1 retrofit... It's a nice projector that looks awesome in our heads and the process seems to be fairly simple and straight forward. I'm gonna do it in the next couple weeks
