Power Steering VS Idler Pulley Whine

Pulley VS Power Steering Whine Concluded
This. They are $5 at Harbor Freight. I couldn't tell where my whine was coming from either. I decided to go ahead and replace the pulleys, tensioner, and the belt. But wanted to be sure something else wasn't the cause. The stethoscope very quickly showed me it was one the pulleys making all the noise. It was blatantly obvious once I have the probe on the bolt that held it to the engine.
Just replaced the pulley and sure enough the noise completely stopped. I ended up using a long screwdriver to diagnose where the sound was coming from. Bought new pulley for cheap and had some general auto grease around so greased it up. Baby purrs now. Purpose for this post was to show that no matter what people around you tell you or no matter how "mechanically inclined" someone may seem to be, stick with your opinion despite other people making you feel stupid or to make themselves seem smart. Funny how simple fixes can be misdiagnosed by so many auto shops and long time vehicle mechanics. There isnt anything a little research cant solve, the internet is a great tool when it comes to stuff like that.
Thanks to everyone for their input, cheers & happy wrenching.
