When you did your new pump did you go with Motorcraft or a reman? I did a Napa reman.
Advanced auto reman.. No issue with yet..

Replaced mine about three years ago. Only problem I had was the first reman I bought, the shaft fell out on the highway. Needless to say...I got another pump for free. The overall process was pretty straightforward with no issues. After it was put back together, I primed it via an old drive belt and power drill.

Could too much fluid in the reservoir cause issues? It's a little over the max line. I tried to bleed the system again today so I went to an empty area, took the truck to 3K rpm in neutral, and started turning the wheel lock to lock. Every time I move the steering wheel it has this horrible grind/whine. I'm fearing that I got a defective pump.

Well... I got the truck diagnosed at Firestone today. They called and told me I was thinking correctly that the new pump was messed up, but not for the reason I thought. Basically the old pump decided to grenade and sent it's internals through the lines into my steering rack. These pieces in the steering rack messed up the rack, and then got sucked through the new pump effectively destroying it too. So now I'll be replacing the steering rack, power steering pump (again), and flushing all of the lines to ensure there are no parts left in there. I also may install the power steering filter that NAPA recommends doing.

Bummer. Your situation went from bad to worse. Aside from the cost, at least now you've got an all new steering system and shouldn't ever have to mess with it again.

That sucks!..
I'd probably replace the PS cooler if you don't want that steering system eating a pineapple (grenade) again..

Yeah that's a bit of a silver lining.

I was planning on just flushing the lines out. Do you think that will be sufficient?

The lines will be fine, but I wouldn't doubt if the blockage is in your cooler which is probably what starved the pump..

I bet your pump is even still good, and I may just suggest you swap the cooler only and see how she does..

The cooler would be getting flushed too which would remove the blockage wouldn't it?

i had to do this a few days ago and it is not a fun job, by any means! I needed to do it the get the front timing cover off to pull the head. Taking the fan shroud and fan out was the best thing you could have done i would also say if you can pull the tire well liner it's only a few small 5.5mm bolts and a tree clip it gives you a much better angle then trying to fish around for the bolt heads. Have you pulled the power steering reservoir bracket? it's a big bolt but you don't need to remove it like i did you loosen it about 10 turns and the bracket will tip forward and slide out.
