Default Power Steering Pump

I know people on here have changed the power steering pump on our trucks, are there any tricks or landmines to watch out for when doing so?

In addition, has anyone used the Dorman reman?

Is the pump actually bad or is your steering shaft bound up?

I was thinking my pump or rack went bad, but it was the steering shaft. Removed the shaft and worked it over and lubed it up and its been fine since. It is a common problem on these trucks, just search it.
Removing the shaft and lubing it up takes about 2 hrs or so and costs $3 for the can of PB Blaster

Sorry, that came across snarkier than intended.

Yes, I need to change the lower steering shaft. Been keeping it going with spray in chain lube for a while now.

However, this is a different issue, the crossmember under the pump is wet and my dear wife didn't tell me the truck was screaming like a banshee from running with 1/4 of the power steering fluid it's supposed to have in it.
