Default Power Steering Problems

Just bought my 2008 FX2 and i love it. but after the truck warms up there is hardly any power steering at all. It was not doing this to begin with and i have only put 1000 miles on it. It whines like crazy if you are sitting still and try to turn the wheel, but while you have the rpm's up or the truck is moving it does perfect. I was thinking could it be the fluid, i put some lucas power steering fix in it and i think it made it worse to be honest. Maybe the fluid is getting hot and too thin? My truck does not have a power steering cooler. Knowing my luck it is th pump though, just weird it does not make a sound until it warms up and is sitting still. Just wanted to get some thoughts before i go and spend 80 dollars on a power steering pump. and how bad are they to change if i do have to do it? Thanks in advance.

sounds like the pump is out. I bet it pretty easy to change....found some online for like $50...and i bet you can get it for less at a local place. most times its a few bolts and the belt and it off.

Finally got around to putting a new pump on it today, went with a car quest one for $70. Did not want to put a cheap autozone one on it. its not too bad to change and it works just fine now. there was some little black pieces of something in the reservoir so i took it odd and cleaned it too, i guess something gave up in the old pump? and the new pump came with an o ring and Teflon seal, i did not see the o ring on anything so i just put th Teflon back on the pressure line, did i miss the o ring somewhere?
