Default Power steering issue

A problem popped up with my steering lately, which took me by surprise as I've read nothing about steering problems on this forum. Basically the steering gets "stuck" in the center position and takes more force than normal to turn left or right. If you turn hard enough it breaks free; it's as if there's one spot where it binds up. I checked the power steering fluid and it was fine, nice and red, but I went ahead and flushed the system with new ATF, but that didn't seem to help.

This only happens when the truck is warm and goes away on it's own eventually. What could this be? Air getting into the system somehow?

The control valve in the pump could be getting stuck. I'd replace the pump. If its a gear box problem it would be causing problems all the time.

Only does it when warm, but eventually goes away? Doesn't sound like pump... Is belt possibly slipping?

04fxdwgi--I think you hit it when you said universals in the steering shaft.

Next time it gets stuck pop the hood and see if the shaft is binding.

Hey..where'd that post go?

The other day it happened, I parked the truck and shut it off, started it up 5 minutes later and the steering was perfect. Weird.
