Default Power Mirrors not functioning (2004 Supercrew)

Hi all,

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have a 04 Supercrew FX4 and just started having problems with my power mirrors. They are not working at all. Both went out at the same time. I have replaced the unit on the door panel after checking the fuse without any luck. Are there other places I should be looking?

BTW - they are not heated mirrors if that makes a difference and I am having no other electrical issues.

Thanks,
Dale

Time to start tracing the power source for a break, or lack of ground.

Have you installed, or had someone else install anything electrical lately? If so, look in that area for a "disturbed" wiring harness, broken wire, or removed ground.

Without my wiring diagram, I cannot provide you with the wiring color codes to begin, but if you PM me, I can get this to you this evening. Since both are out and the fuse is good, I suspect the wiring to the drivers door as first likely suspect. Power from the fuse routes to the door switch, from there it "feeds the left and right mirror up/down motor based on the switch setting (mirror left/right setting).

I assume when you say you replaced the "unit" on the door panel, you mean the switch?

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I replaced the switch on the door with a new unit and it still had no impact. There hasn't been anything new added to the truck or installed recently so this is a bit of mistery to me. I will PM you for the information you offered. Thanks a lot for your help.

He had a broken wire in the door wiring harness (harness that is in the rubber tube between door jamb and door).

Yup, that was it. The hardest part was pulling the boot back far enough to get in there and strip the wire to reconnect it. I ended up just shoving the boot inside the door to get it out of the way.

Good luck tracking down your problem. It was a really quick fix once I tracked it down; with Bucko's help!
