Default Is it possible to swap beds?

I know someone who wants to trade my 6.5’ styleside bed for his 6.5’ flareside bed. Does anyone know for certain that this is possible? It seems possible but I heard from a mechanic that the bed bolts do not line up. Does anyone know of anyone who has done this swap? I am 3 hours away from the guy who wants to trade so I can’t look at the bolts on his to find out. Need to be for certain...

The ford dealership near me seems to think it should work but have never had anyone come in and try it. It wouldn’t make sense for Ford to have made 2 frames just to accommodate the flareside bed. Plus I parked next to one tonight and the bolts seemed to be in the same place in the bed. Guess I’ll go for it...

I'm pretty sure its a straightforward swap. The bumper will probably have to swap also. With a factory tow package the bumper and hitch are basically integrated so you might want to look into that, but this shouldn't be too difficult a job. I really like the look of the stepside bed and I'm surprised how few were sold.

Yeah I’m just looking for a different look and I like the flareside. I don’t see it too often. We are going to swap over everything we need including the fuel filler hoses since they are slightly different. Hopefully it all works out!

You know, I almost went back to mention the fuel filler but I figured that was pretty basic and you must have figured that out. Post some pics of the project when you can. What about paint colors, THAT could get interesting.....

Stepside bed was the whole reason I chose the 04-08 F-150. Chevy had one too in the early 2000's (Toyota too), but I liked the Ford.

I have a 12th gen ('13) with a 6.2 that I really like. Now you've got me thinking about how cool it would be to have a step-side on it. The 04-08 body lines are the same, the only difference is the whale-tail tailgate and fenders, and the giant tail lights which I'm not crazy about anyway. I'd already been thinking about looking for a traditional '04-'08 bed. Now you've got me thinking stepside. Probably just a foolish notion, but if I came across a decent/repairable bed, who knows...

from my research as I need a new box for my 2004, 04-14 beds are interchangeable as long as the original length is the same.

I think that would look awesome. I know they put the same flareside on some of the 2009 models and I think it looks good.

Yeah, that’s exactly what I’m gathering about it all. Just not many people who have done it, it seems. I don’t have a problem being the guinea pig lol.
