So I decide it was time to do the job of changing sparkplugs tonight in my 06 5.4 3 valve. She's at 75,000 miles. I've been prepping for it....have ran Lucas objectors cleaner through the last three tanks to help aleviate the carbon build up. Starting tearing into it...got 6 cracked loose and let Sea Foam deep creep work and went on to the last two...passenger side back two....they were a pain to get to. Anyway I took it slow and through the whole process and some beers later...I had only three that broke. I thought that was not bad from what I read on others posts. I bought the extractor from NAPA and that was the ticket. So I had 6 hrs into it and a few beers and wallah...she runs like a top. Thanks to this forum....I was given a lot of advice and pointers....thanks guys!!

I bought it from NAPA...designed for our motors. I paid $110 for it.

Just like the lisle tool I used. About the same price. It's not as big of a head ache as people claim it to be. Did you leave the computer on it?

No..I ended up removing it and its bracket...made it much easier I thought especially since one of the ones that broke was the furthest one back on that side. And I agree...it really wasn't that bad. I was expecting a lot worse before I started. I thought maybe once a year taking the time to unthread the new plugs just to keep the carbon build up down....what do you think? Is it worth it?

I removed my computer as well. I wouldn't worry about it. Unless your keeping till 200k unthreading the plugs may do more harm than good. Take and suck up half a can of sea foam in your vacuum lines every oil change and throw the other half in the tank. When you plan on changing again get it REALLY hot then seafoam a whole can let soak for 10 mins fire it up and drive it like ya stole it the park the thing and let it cool completely. And do it again. There's some stuff called kroil or aero kroil that's an amazing penetrating oil almost as good as deep creep
