Default Parking Brake Issues 04 Fx4

Guys,
lately I noticed when applying the parking brake that it goes down to the floor.

The truck has had other problems before such as the right rear shoes on the park brake dragging. I went back in to find one bonded shoe lining falling off and the cable not hooked on to the actuator arm (see photo).

What I missed before is that the linkage inside the backing plate has pivot plate that works the park brake shoes. This truck had been used to pull a bass boat and I imagine that’s why they had issues with binding in the past-the axle being under water at the launch ramp.

When you are changing your rear rotors make sure that the shoes linkage pivots back and forth as shown in my 2nd photo. All is well now with anti- seize beneath it all. I also lubed all the shoe to backing plate contact points. It holds smoothly and applies easily now.
