I recently bought a 2005 F150 4.6 V8 with 266k miles from a guy that neglected the truck. Last weekend I changed the spark plugs and ignition coils, oil change with new oil filter 5W-30, cleaned MAF sensor, replaced air filter, and replaced the EVAP purge valve. It is throwing a P2196 code and it makes the electrical sounding ticking noise. The sound is very rhythmic and goes in and out at the same time intervals. Can someone help me diagnose this? I really need to pass emissions asap, truck is currently unregistered with no plates so I can’t drive it on the street.

 

Make sure you do not have a loose spark plug. Improper torquing can be an issue as well as striped threads.

 

I torque all of the spark plugs to about 26 ft lbs. when I torqued cylinder 8 the wrench didn’t click. I’ll check it tonight.
