Of course if I need to replace the cat, then that's totally understood. I've never had one go bad before is all so just wanted to run down some options before replacing it. If the code keeps coming back, then I assume that it really is a bad cat. Funny thing was right after I bought the truck and drove it 30 miles home, the engine light turned off on its own during the drive. Of course it came back about a week later.

so what that tells me is the cat got hot enough for long enough to burn off enough deposits to fall back into the parameters needed, 2 years ago myself and my fiance got my grandmas car after she gave up driving, had a cat code, the rear o2 mirrored the front one, usually that in itself is a tell tale sign the cat is bad. once the cat 'lights off' the o2 sensor goes high voltage and hovers there until it cools back down, it is normal under a cold start for the o2s to mirror each other,

Yes even after long warmup, the second O2 sensor will mirror the first. Well I think I've got enough knowledge from you all to confirm that I do believe it is indeed a bad Cat. Looks like I'll be ordering one from Rockauto

before you go that far, check around with some local exhaust shops, they might be able to do it for a fraction of a new y pipe assembly,
also check to see if your state is a CARB state or follows their laws, you then will need a 50 state cat/calif emission cat not a 49/federal emissions cat
Got a walker bolt on carb legal cat yesterday and just installed it today. O2 voltage now shows normal operation. After taking the old cat off and being able to move it around, I could hear the pieces inside the cat rolling around. For some reason I couldn't hear anything rattling around when I previously tried the "smack it with a mallet" test.
