Default P0022

Evening! Ok I Ive been having issues with my truck when coming to a stop. When coming to a stop and the engine is idling the truck will run real rough. If I put the truck in neutral and rev it past 1700 rpms or so the truck will return to normal idle. Outside of this the truck runs like a top. My truck only does this warmed up. Sometimes it does it every time I stop and sometimes it wont do it for weeks. The truck has a CELL light that will come on and then a week later it will turn off by itself. Got the code scanned and it's a P0022. After searching google and this forum regarding this code I have a few questions...

1.) Should I swap bank 1 and 2 vct solenoids to verify its the solenoid before I purchase one. Should I do both if one is bad?

2.) I dont understand why it only does it sometimes and why it only does do it when warmed up.

3.) If it's not the solenoid are the phasers next in line?

Thanks guys!

Had the exact same problem, turned out to be the phasers. I replaced the solenoid first with no effect. One of my chain guides was also broken so had to take the full front of the engine apart.

That's what Im afraid of. Im gonna start by switching the solenoids from bank 1 to bank 2 and if the misfire continues its the cam phasers. Bummer. The other possibility from what I've read is oil pressure problem. Im ruling that out for now because I have a problem on one side instead of two. This sucks...

Yup, I thought the same thing and went through the same steps. Ran perfect most the time, but sometimes a really rough hot idle. Good luck, hopefully its just the solenoid.

Mine happened at 60k miles, about 3 weeks after I bought it!

Thanks for the help. How much were the phasers? Did you do the tining chain and chain guides as well? I heard people also do the lash adjusters while its opened up. Im just prepping myself ... thx again!

I did both chains, guides, phasers, as well as the cam position sensors. Also did the spark plugs while it was apart. Total after everything was 3100. Problem was completely solved afterwards.
