Default Options For Our Cheap Center Console Gear Selector?

I'm not sure about everyone else, but my center console gear selector feels so cheap. Here I drive a Lariat with this classy styled interior and I feel this is one point where the interior truly lacks. It feels cheap, it looks cheap, and it is cheap! It is made from cheap plastic and creaks when you change gears. Shoot, even my girlfriend's cheap Nissan Sentra has a nicer shift ****.

Has anyone come up with a way to improve theirs? Maybe a 2009+ swap?

You could always trade it in. Your truck is 10 years old. It's not new and exciting anymore. There was once a time when it was the best thing out there....

I don't think the newer consoles would work as a swap.

I disagree, it is still very exciting to me. There is really no point in trading for a new truck because the 2004-2008 trucks are not much different than the new ones. They even share the same chassis. Heck, I've been asked on more than one occasion if my truck was brand new . The interior of my truck is mint, with the exception of the gear selector.

Maybe replace the gear selector with a new one I have a 07 fx4 and it makes no noise and I have about 111,000 mi on my. If yours is older sometimes you will find that the manufacture has updated the part due to complaints. But I do know what you are saying my wife has a 08 taurus x and the shifter in that thing is all kinds of creaky and noisy.

That is an excellent idea that I never thought of! I wonder if the nice ones from the Lincoln Mark trucks will fit.

I could swear I read a thread about a Lincoln swap but I can't find it now. It had pictures too about the disassembly and reassembly. Yes, I used the search function.

Negative, about two days after discussing with my friends that I have never seen one in person, one parks right next to me. Ironic, I know.
