Here is a final update on this realize its late but well you know.. Anywho my ac unit started acting up quite a bit then finally wasn't cooling at all. It started short cyling then the low pressure and high were the same. I opened up the system and had the orifice tube full of crap. Okay so I knew the system was toast so I put in an old orifice tube that was clean evaced the system and powee started taking one can and system went on and started short cycling again but stopped. then ac compress started smoking. Any way the point is the relay in the little box on the fender was not good. It appears that when the ground was hooked up somehow it would work intermittently thus causing the pump to continuously run. So I cleaned the box up with electrical cleaner and put a new relay in. I ordered and just received a new condenser, accumulator and 4 season hoses. I will put new orifice tube in also. Now to pull that pump off again. Works good when you pull the fan off then it comes right out the front. LOL

Default ??? Does that mean the mechanic should not have wired a ground into that point .

I had a intermittent compressor relay for year . It drove me nuts . When it finally quit all the way .I had trouble getting new one as the listing for it was flaky . It is a small relay for its purpose and it is located on the engine compartment drivers side .
The diode is only to dampen the kick from the clutch when deenergizing from harming the electrical system .
Running the compressor full time could damage it like you had . It needs to cycle . It also could go extreme high pressure and blow !
