Default Oil Pressure Gauge Problem

I'm running an Autometer electric oil pressure gauge. Out of the blue, it started reading erratically. Bounces between 30 & 50 psi at steady RPM. Cold pressure sits at 25 even when RPM increased. Spikes to 75 at times. Condition improves once engine/oil is at operating temp, but still persists. You think it's the sender or the gauge itself?

Default I would be worried it is telling you about a blockage

Broken guides /jammed oil pu etc . Check it with mech gauge . Oil problems rampant on this engine.

Engine has 130k miles on, but purrs smooth. No tick, rattles, knocks, diesel sound...nothing. I can't imagine the tensioners or guides are shot.
Not saying it's not possible, but there was no issue whatsoever until the other morning.
Also, if the pick up was clogged, would there be 50psi of oil pressure at idle?

I can't imagine it would ever have 50 psi at idle to be honest. Well, unless you are running 10W50

Exactly! I'm running 5W20. That's why I'm leaning towards the sender. Found a way to test it using a meter (ohms). Gonna give that a try.

I'll try to keep this short, but I solved my problem. After replacing the sender, gauge and 2 wires, I still got funky oil pressure readings. Searching for another possible explanation, I stumbled across a thread on a race car forum that had a lengthy discussion about the downside of getting pressure from a sandwich adapter. With nothing else to go on, I rolled the dice and ditched the sandwich adapter. I tee'ed off the stock pressure switch port and what do you know?! I now have consistent, sensible oil pressure readings.
I know the sandwich adapter is a very popular option for sourcing oil pressure. Some do it because the original sender location is too confined for a tee. I believed that originally, and that's what lead me to running a sandwich adapter in the first place. After a quick search, I was able to get a small $6 brass tee from Amazon that worked perfectly.
Just passing along what I learned.

Do you happen to have the link for the tee?
