There is an O-ring style seal in the actual plug, over torquing it might have pinched the o-ring. Not sure if you can just buy the o-ring, or you need the whole plug+ring.

Never seen an oring or gasket on one. Put some thread tape on it and sit back with a cold budlight and call it a day lol.

Would some sealant work?

Go to a hardware store and buy a copper washer. Replace it every 3-4 oil changes. The copper washer crushes slightly to create a good seal. Avoid any type of sealer. Go the copper washer route. Many autos come with this installed on their drain plug from the factory.

Since the factory plug comes with a seal built in (not sure if its replaceable) I would just go to ford and get a new drain plug with seal. IIRC they are only 14$.

I wouldn't put any sort of sealer on there.

The copper washer is a good idea though!
