Default Oil Dipstick Tube Install Help

I am putting an oil dipstick tube in my 2004 F150 5.4 L 4x4. I have the oil pan off. I was able to tap the old one out with quite a bit of effort. I was much less successful at getting the new one in. I tried using grease and still could not get it in.

Anyone who has done this before have any suggestions?

Tools or tips?

It's been close to four years since I did mine, but I believe I tried tapping it in with a long, skinny brass drift from above. If memory serves me, this did not work so well so I used a large pair of channel locks and squeezed it in, gripping the block and the flange of the tube.

If you can, stick the tube in a freezer over night. It will shrink ever so slightly, and might help a little.

I tried the freezer method yesterday but only in the freezer for an hours tops. I should've put it back in the freezer before I left then would've been cold for today.

I am going to try the channel lock method when I get back over there.

I think filing it down will weaken it, it isn't all that strong to begin with.

Yeah I took a little sand paper to the end of it, and got it in. It wasn't too bad once the paint was filed off. Still fit tight though. Thanks for the input guys.
