Default Oil change

I just got my 06 f150 5.4 last week after it has sat for 2 years. I changed the oil and noticed when I removed the filter the oil spilled onto the front differential and onto the skid plate then into my catch pan. After I completed the oil change and started the truck I noticed oil underneath the truck. I believe it was the old oil dripping from the skid plate. Is this common?

Welcome to the forum.

Crawl back under and clean all the old oil you can and then monitor.

Pissed about it but live with it
Brakleen and a rag is your friend
I park mine across the street after changing the oil (or go somewhere)

I removed the factory drip shield and I put a def funnel under the filter it catches 100% of the oil and directs it out and down to the drain pan. I'm pretty sure I got the idea from someone on this sub forum.

You could alternatively try one of these:

Mine had a little useless plastic peice (that is no longer there) it never caught enough. I usually keep a few spare dirty shop rags to cover it 2 to 3 seems to be plenty. Get a bag of rags from harbor freight for cheap.
Mine is a 2wd so no front dif though.
