Default Oil Change

I bought my new 08 FX2 in December of last year and it currently has 1050 miles on it. My question is, should I change the oil in her or should I wait til I have 3000 miles on her? I know she doen't get driven much!

Check with your owners manual for the first recommended oil change. Best to do what Ford says. If its 3 or 5 or 1, follow the manual.

A good friend of mine that is a mechanic told me you should at least change your oil once a year. The reason for this that you will always get moisture dirt in your engine no matter how much you drive.

I believe your manual will tell you 7000 miles (maybe 7500) regular driving. and every 5000 miles (200 operating hours) for "severe" driving. Mine does. By their definition, most of us are "severe" drivers. We do some city driving, tow some trailers, carry some heavy loads, drive in dusty areas, and let our vehicles idle a little more in the winter.
Besides, justified or not, I have a psychological hang-up about going 7000 miles on an oil change.

A ford tech told me that there is no need or benefit to changing the oil any more frequently than 5000 miles for 99% of us. And he also said that oil should be changed MINIMUM once a year, preferably at least twice, regardless of miles.
The last post was right. Oil does degrade and condensation and moisture do accumulate in engines. This is more important in vehicles that travel very short distances where the engine doesn't reach and stay at operating temperature, to burn off that condensation.

So my answer is "DRIVE THE TRUCK MORE!"

+1. Allthough I assumed it was standard practice that the dealer did the first oil change for FREE. That's the way it is with every dealer around here and the dealer I work at (not auto, but still). This would give the dealer the chance to make sure they didn't miss anything on the delivery inspection and it also lets you get accustomed to the service department.

I guess not every dealer is like that, doesn't make sense to me why they wouldn't all they'd have to do is tell you the first oil change is free and charge $40 more on the price of the vehicle.....

What about the Mobil 1 extended. I was reading on Mobil's website that they claim their oil is good for 15000 miles or 1 year, any thoughts?

Use the search. Read about this on the many posted threads you'll find here, then make your decision.

Even with synthetic, I would not go beyond 7,500. The oil filter should not be left installed beyond 7500 miles.
