Then I doubt his truck would have got stuck if a Mustang could drive on it

If you need 4x4, airing down makes a huge difference by giving you a larger footprint.

That's what I'm thinking.

Op

Get in the sand, put in 4x4, foot on brake and give it so gas. If in 4x4 it will not move much. If it is not engaging it will dig a hole fast with the rears.

Alternatively out it up in 4 sturdy safety stands, put in 4 high and in gear. See what spins. Should have a least one wheel in front turning.

I noticed.

What a weird coincidence. Lack of traction in 4 wheel drive and the 4 wheel drive light burnt out at the same time.

Nothing new to report yet. Visually checked IWE solenoid on firewall, looks ok to the naked eye, although it does appear to be the old style (without rainshield). Might not hit the sand til the weekend but keep the input coming.

Normally when the solenoid fails you are stuck engaged, not disengaged as the vacuum is applied to release the IWEs.

You cannot visually inspect any of the parts. You need a vacuum gauge and can borrow one from the loan-a-tool program at most of the major parts stores.
