It happened to me 2 weeks ago I haven't checked the bulb yet but I would imagine it's that....get a Haynes repair manual to figure out how to take the dash apart it's a hella lot easier than guess!

Removing a cluster is about 15 minutes. Remove the lower trim piece below the steering column (two bolts, then slide hands along bottom to top to pop the side snaps. Now you will see the upper cluster cover bolts (almost even to the left and right of the steering column). Remove these and use hands to pop the snaps holding the cluster cover, then pull back. Lowering the steering columns tilt to it's lowest position helps.

Four bolts holds the cluster in place. Remove them, plus remove the two upper wiring harnesses at the top of the cluster by sliding the locking tab to the left or right (depending on left or right harness plug. If you have a column shifter, pull the cluster up about two inches, then use your thumb and pointer finger to unsnap the "P R N D 1 2" dial from the lower cluster. Remove cluster and replace bulb. Installation is reverse.

well it must have just been a one time thing, today the light turned on when i started the truck and when i switched my heads on it dimmed like it should. i guess it just one of those things that happens every once in a while for no reason.
