Default OBD not working---any suggestions??

So I went to try out my Edge Evo yesterday, and when I plugged it into the OBD plug, it didn't power up... thought it was a bad Evo for the longest while... ended up plugging it into my buddies truck... flashed right up!! Couldn't believe it... where do I start troubleshooting??

Owners manual shows that it shares the same fuse as cig. lighter (the most common fuse to blow)on my 08 SuperCrew. I love Ford but that wasn't the smartest choice. I work at AutoZone and thats seems to be the most common reason that our OBD Scanner won't connect to customers vehicle.

Thanks guys good info. A mechanic tried to hook his computer up to mine a few days ago and it wouldn't power up. Would this also possibly cause the check engine light to come on??
