Default northeast ohio 4x4

hey guys i havent had my f150 in winter, i have driven in alot of bad winters up here in the snowbelt in ohio. but is 4x4 really needed. or would a 2wd truck work just as fine, i want to offroad, but only do some trails. so 4x4 wouldnt really be needed. but im mostly thinking about winter. so do you guys think i should stick looking for a 4x4 or just save some cash and get 2wd.

thanks guys

Personally, I wish I would have spent a little more cash and got a 4x4. It sucks not having it when you need it. And you don't think you need it until you do. I'd say spend a little extra and get a 4x4 if you can.

Owned a 2wd, got some bigger tires and it did great in lighter snow..(currently live in AZ but I go up to ID and UT for family) however I too regretted not having the 4x4 for comfort sake.. always had that slight worry about getting stuck. Sold my 2wd and now have a 4x4. Never going back! I'd say spend the extra $$ , you won't regret it in the long run

I've had all 4X4's since 1986. Not that I use the 4 WD very often. Normally drive the snow in 2 WD. 4 WD helps you get started faster but after you are going, no more benefit. My use of 4 WD is normally for launching the boat, pulling someone out after they got stuck, getting up the driveway if I havn't cleared the ice and snow yet.
If you have the extra money, it is a good investment.

I grew up in Colorado and have had pickups most of the time, all of them 4wd.
I'd never own just a 2wd truck.

I've only had to use the 4wd on the worst of snow days. Once the snow is packed its not too bad getting around in 2wd.

I live in Oregon, I've had my F150 5 years now and I've only used the 4wd 4 times.
Each time, it's saved my bacon. And those times I was one of the few people out and about in the storm.
Now I live further out of town and get more snow each year. I bought a tow strap so I can yank the 2wd guys out of ditches on my commute.
With the increased snow and living on a hill, I'm sure I'll use my 4wd much more.

That was smooth as hell. Anyways OP, 4x4 is a great thing to have here in NE Ohio. In the 4 years I have lived here I have had two vehicles. The first was AWD and this one which is 4wd. Seldom did I use 4x4 last winter but by god was it good to have when I did. You can only catch so much traction with sand bags in the back, after that you need extra grabbing power.
