Is this normal?
so I went on a trip to Texas about a week ago, which was something about 1,400 miles from ca to Dallas tx. When I got there I drove around for a few days and when I went to check my oil it was nearly out of oil (dip stick marked below the min line). This might sound like a du,b question but is this normal for a f150 to use up the oil like that? Before I left I filled her back up and when I finally got to ca the level had gone down a little bit. This is the first time I ever experienced something like this. I used to have a chevy Tahoe (sadly) before I got my truck and it never did anything like that and my tahoe was supercharged and everything, could someone please enlighten me on this situation? Thanks!
Well it could be one of a few things, fortunately being just a small bit lower than the minimum line means you really aren't losing much. You could have it as simple as your plug isn't sealed well and is leaking a small bit. Then if not that it could be your oil pan gasket. which is a little bit more of a pain in the ***. If it is not either one of those two things, you are either burning oil, or you are leaking out of your valve cover gasket. Both of which require a significant amount of work. For starters let your truck sit for a day or so on clean concrete, look at your oil pan, if it looks greasy its probably plug or oil pan gasket. If neither one of those look at your valve covers. If those are dry as well, sit where your exhaust comes out and have someone start your truck. If it smokes when you start it (not the steam from condensation) then you are burning oil and there is a lot more work involved. If you are burning oil, honestly I would leave it and just check every now and then to make sure you have oil, and add as needed, until it becomes a problem. Anyways good luck!
