Default No reverse?

I have a 2006 f150 supercrew lariat with the 5.4. Last weekend while out and about, I put the truck in reverse, but it didn't go into gear. It felt as if it were still in park or neutral. I shifted back to park, and then reverse again, and after a couple second delay, it kicked into reverse. This whole past week it continued to do the same, just a little delay, and it would go into reverse. Yesterday it would get into reverse at all. I don't think reverse gear is out, because when it does go into gear, there is no slipping or clunking or anything out of the ordinary. My question is, is there a solenoid or something of the like that tells the tranny to engage reverse? Possibly needing something simple replaced? Any help is greatly appreciated, especially since my neck of the woods just got a foot of snow dropped on us!

Could be the shift linkage, but most likely is trash in the reverse fluid circuit. I would let ford do a hot tranny flush asap. My dealer only charged me 80 bucks AMD I haven't had any tranny issues since. Btw I have an 07 xlt with 60k.

Were you having the same symptoms? And mine only has 82k, and I don't beat on her, so seems a little early for tranny issues. Thanks for the response.

Mine had probs shifting from 2-3 and was slow to get in reverse. It was winter when I had this issue. My usual oil change place said they could do it, but it had to be a warm day so the fluid would be pretty warm. Ford has a heated flush machine that works in any weather...and they guaranteed their work.
