No 4x4
Hey Guys,
I am kinda new to the forum world, but not entirely. I do a lot of looking, getting ideas, & research, on them. Now, I need help.
I just recently bought my son a 2005 4x4 Lariat. We just had the front-end repaired ( new ball joints, rocker arm, ect. ). Well, we went fishing today & the 4x4 will not engage. The shift motor on the transferr case works fine. I tried turning the drive shaft while engaged.
Long story short, I have read all I could find about the IWE, on this fourm. It seems, most discussions are about the IWE engaging when the vaccum is lost. I can't find much about when it won't engauge & from what I have read, I am thinking, the solenoid is out.
Does anybody have any other ideas for things that I need to check before I replace it.------------THANKS

I have re-checked everything. The solenoid works & releases vaccum. Everything seems to work & lock in but, still the front wheels don't pull.
I can hear the transaxle shift motor doing its job, I then check the front drive shaft, & it is locked in. I had my son drive slowly to make sure the hub shafts turn & they do. However, the rear wheels will pull & the front do not. I am baffled, & guess I am going to have to see a pro.
P.S. You guys on this forum, are great. I get a lot of help, info, & good ideas from ya'll. If I hear of something that I might want to do to my truck, I check & see what the guys on this forum are saying & thinking about it before, I buy or do anything. Thanks, a million guys.

This may help or not but I guess every little input helps.
I had 4x4 problems with my 2004 F150 too. This was my problem and fix. I had grinding in the front end when accelerating. There were a couple things wrong. First I had a small crack in my vacuum hose going to my front right hub. And I had a Bad IWE solenoid thingamagigga. WHich allowing my hub to partial engage, which therefor led to destroying my hubs teeth(no drive in that wheel). (Dont quote me on anything cause not really sure if I am using the right terminology or why something causes something else to do something
) So I had my hub replaced, IWE replaced with the newer version of it, and the vacuum line fixed. MAYBE the guy before you had a vacuum leak and bad solenoid and let the hubs destroy themselves????
I am no expert but maybe it helped maybe it didnt.
