nitto terra grapplers

looking at getting a set of tires for my summer rims. noticed that alot of you guys run the nitto's im lookin at the terra grapplers mainly due to price. just want some opinions on them, i have read alot of reviews online about poor treadlife so i dont wanna spend $800+ on tires if they are not gonna last long even though they may only see 5000 miles a year at best. any input is greatly appreciated. planning on getting 285/70-17 if that makes a difference

They'll last you about 40,000 (dapends in your driving, im agressive and got 35-38,000 miles) + if you rotate them regularly. They are great in the rain.

I know the passenger (P285/70/17) dont last as long as the LTs (LT285/70/17) but you will have a little rougher ride with the LT tires.

I've got LTs and they ride nice

Im actually ordering them through walmart they have pretty good price and free mount and balance ill have to look on their site to see if they are passenger or lt

Keep in mind the more aggressive tread is going to have more rolling resistance as well as a shorter wear life when driving on the road all the time.

I have Terra grapplers and love em. Been on the truck for about 20,000 miles now and haven't noticed any wear at all. Great tire.

fireman739 02-08-2012 06:01 AM

I have general grabber at2s on the truck now they seem to have worn pretty decent. Wish I could get them in the 285/70. The nittos look like the same type of tread pattern so hopefully they will be a decent road tire

What size are your Terra's?

I just bought LTs and put them on yesterday and I was really surprised with the ride. I knew they were going to be a little tougher but it's just barely noticeable nothing like I thought they were going to be. I've been waiting for a while to get them and I'm excited that I have them on now! They look great!

I know I sure dont consider terra grapplers as summer tires, they have alot of life in them but the traction on wet surfaces is horrible

Well lucky for me Texas is in a drought

They have gotten more pricey than BFG ATs. I have ran them on all my trucks for years now... I won't be jumping ship even if they continue to go up in price!

abgiles 02-08-2012 02:25 PM

I had them on my 2010 for about 10k miles, and didn't have a problem, even in the rain. I just took it careful, and still had no problems stopping when some dumb b*#@h pulled out in front of me. There's a similar thread on the 2009+ side of the house, with all sorts of answers about how horrible the tread life is, how wonderful it is, etc... Best I could determine is that it depends on your driving style, maintaining them properly inflated at all times, and rotating them regularly. I had some 275/70/18's on mine, and I did notice a reduction in the gas mileage (about 2 mpg), even after correcting for the difference in the odometer due to the bigger size.

How do you change the tire size in the computer so odometer is correct?

I've had the stock continental tires, general grabber ats and now the nitto terra grapplers and they all have poor traction in rain probably cause of the lack of weight in the rear. The nittos I went with the 295/70 17s and they are great in the snow but suck in the mud.

I have some discoverer STTs  I love how aggressive they look but my traction is horrible, cant accelerate too quickly or you will feel the truck slipping, but they are very low tread now almost running slicks haha, anybody have suggestions for good priced all terrain tires? I want to still run 33x12.50x17. btw I live in Florida and I dont drive off road, I just like the look.

The STT's are a little expensive? I paid 330 each including tax and mount/balance. My rims are black now to complete the storm trooper look so I'd have to paint the red letters unless they come in white? Lol

beast150 02-08-2012 09:24 PM

Oh I was answering to your,"any good all terrains" question. The general red lettered ones are the ones I was talking about expensive.

lastwish 02-08-2012 09:45 PM

Im running the 305 55 20's and love em. They ride great but like you I don't put very many miles on em since I drive a company truck all week. There awesome in the sand but I have been told they kinda suck in the mud because they slick up real quick. I ordered my 6" rough country lift this morning so im gonna switch to the trail grapplers in a 35. Hope I like them as much!

Ah Gotcha, I think I'm going to get the general grabber AT2 tires, seem good and only around 235 each

beast150 02-09-2012 09:36 AM

Yeah those tires are amazing
