Default Newbie with Trans ?

First off...I'm a newbie and I did search without finding what I want. Maybe i'm stupid!

I have a 2006 F150, 5.4L, 4spd Auto, 3.73's with 35's and I have problems with the transmission staying in overdrive. It likes to hunt back and fourth with the slightest movement of the pedal. My question is... Would putting a programer on help with this issue? Possible mechanical problem? Gear change?

Thanks Fella's

Are you sure it is coming out of overdrive or just unlocking the converter?

Mine will unlock the converter before it does a downshift.

It does both. Just seems to do it with the slightest of changes. I figure it should hold better. Any suggestions? Will a programer help?

Quite a bit of the programmer changes have to do with the transmission shift points, pressures and such.

Mine would take some peddling to get it to shift down and quit thinking about it mostly from three to two. The programmer took care of that.

I know they are quite pricey but pretty much worth it.

Which programer would you suggest? Was looking into the Edge evolution, I had good luck with an Edge product on my diesel.
