New Truck...Seems alittle sluggish

I have the same truck and have had it since it was brand new, and it has never really had good mid-range power. Most of its power comes in at the 3000-5000 RPM range, I suspect it's due to variable cam timing (maybe not the best thing for a truck). Do the new 5.0 engines have VCT?

As far as I can tell from the video, mine accelerates about the same as that, they are heavy trucks (something like 7300 lbs) with only 300 HP they are not speed demons that's for sure

Yep, they are heavy but there seems to be plenty of videos on youtube showing the trucks usually in the 8-9sec range. I had a 99 silverado 2500 crew cab that weighed just a little more but had a less powerful engine that did 10sec. I don't expect a racecar but I know it should have alittle more pep than it does. My buddy's silverado with the 4.8 has more pep lol

James, I'm assuming you did long tubes on yours what brand/price? Did they help a lot and were they a pain to install? Did you do true dual or stay with y pipe?

You can get a good set of headers from ebay for $300 or so. Your gonna want to go with dual 2 1/2 or single 3 inch. So that means your gonna also need a 2 1/2-3 inch y pipe and a single inlet 3 inch dual outlet 2 1/2 or ditch the y pipe altogether and run dual 2 1/2 to a dual inlet and outlet muffler. In that case I would go with a dynomax. Eitherway your gonna pick up a good 30hp and a buttload of low and mid range torque. Your also gonna need extensions for the O2 sensors and a custom tune. If you have to pass emission tests your gonna need a set up with cats and that means more money as well.
So all In all your looking at $1000 to do it right. When it comes to exhaust, common sense goes a long way. Dont dump two 2 1/2 inch pipes into a single 2 1/2, and dont down size the pipe at all as a matter of fact. This can be tricky because companies seel things to hook up to stock exhaust.
