Default new key fob (how to program)

I have a 04 f150 and my old key fob didnt work. so i bought a new batterty thinking that might be it. But after the new key fob battery failed i bought a brand new remote. Anyone know how to program it? or should i take it to the dealer and get them to do it?

THanks

I believe a key has to be programmed by a dealer. They did an extra for me, free of charge

It's in your owner's manual. Basically, with all doors shut ( E-brake may need to be set too), you have to roll the key in the ignition from position 1 (off) to position 3 (run, NOT start) eight times, stopping in position eight. At this point the locks will cycle (lock and unlock once) letting you know your in the program mode for this. Make sure you have all remotes in hand an push the lock or unlock button on each remote individually. After you do this with all remotes turn the ignition back to position 1 (off) and the locks will cycle once more letting you know it's complete.

Even though you may have more than one remote and the others work fine anytime you enter the program mod it clears all of them and they all need reprogrammed.

Keys are also easy to program yourself, as long as you have at least two working (already programmed) keys. It also tell you how to do this in the owner's manual.

Thanks.. i finally got it to work.. When i started i thought to my self... this is kinda a strange way to get the truck to program something..lol

But the first 3 or 4 times i did it the locks would lock and unlock and when i push a button on the remote (say the lock button) they would lock but when i got out and tried to lock it nothing happened.. but finally it worked..

Thanks for the great info......

Will this work with a dealer installed antitheft system?
