get a dura-last... and make sure it's about 200CCA above what your current one has.

After spending big $$ on batterys over the years thinking I was getting a better product and having them fail right along with the cheap ones I just started buying the NAPA batterys. Most batterys are produced by the same company anyways. (Johnson controls)

 

Last time I checked, there are no true dry-cell batteries in production for motor vehicles. What your friend was referencing was probably an absorbed glass matt (AGM) or gel-cell battery. People tend to choose these types of batteries because they are less prone to leakage, corrosion, and failure over the typical lead-acid battery where the sulfur remains in a true liquid form rather than being suspended like the AGM or gel-cell batteries do.

If I were to recommend a battery, it would have to be the Optima Yellow Top. It's a deep cycle AGM battery with plenty of CCA. It's one of the best batteries out there IMO, albeit a little pricey.

If you need more suggestions it would be helpful to know a price range and what your electrical demands are. Hope this helps

 

The Optima's are not what they were a few years ago. They are an over rated and over priced regular battery now. I picked one up for my Ranger last January and that thing has spent more time on the charger than not. The old weak Motorcraft that was in it held up better at half the CCA and standby charge. Very disappointed with my yellowtop.

 

Wow thanks for the info. It's funny you mention that because I do believe I purchased mine in 08-09'ish. I haven't had any problems with my yellow tops since I bought them, but I have lost touch a bit with aftermarket electronics over the last few years.

Yeah I guess they changed hands and arent made the way they used to be. Im pretty bummed with the results, it cost me $100 more than the NAPA replacement I put in my Lariat around the same time.

 

I bought a Duracell at SAMs CLUB for $75 and it has a 96 month pro-rated warranty. It's been great so far.

 

I haven't had any issues with my red top in the last year and a half.

IIRC, Motorcraft batteries were a good balance of value and performance/reliability.
