Default need spare keys

i found the pats key's on ebay for my 2004 truck and it's saying i need 2 original keys to program the pats blank keys. i only have one original key though. it says i need to go to the dealership to get them programmed and it says that will be around $50-$75. is there any other way to go by to do this?

I had to go to the dealership to get my second key. Cost $113.00 out the door.

My truck only had one key when I bought it and I took it to a locksmith and had them make and program another key. I had the dealer (small used car dealer) pay for the new key.

You dont have to go to a dealer to have a key made.

There isn't a way to do a second key (unless you have a buddy who works in a dealership) unless you pay the dealer. Cost me $75 in east LA (lower Alabama).

Mostly you can get them only through the dealer unless a local locksmith has a pats programmer, which some do in fact have. Call ahead and ask some local shops before taking it to the dealer, where they will most certainly mark the price up. Way up. And yes, if you got a friend on the inside of a ford dealership then that is the way to go.

Make sure if you go to a locksmith that they are giving you a new key with it's own code. Some locksmiths can only make a clone of the key you have. So, you are still unable to program new keys on your own.

I think $50 for a new key is a very, very good price at the dealer.

Yeah, what dnlow says. Only a select few locksmiths get these programmers. Some places could fool you. Definitely something to think about.
