you are going to need to go to a dealer to get a second key programed into the computer. If you have the owners manual, (see page 143-144 in the manual for instructions on how to program additional keys where you can check that out). The computer requires 2 keys to program yourself or you HAVE to have the dealer program the key/computer.

see page 143-144 in the manual for instructions on how to program additional keys.

I honestly suggest you go to the dealer for a replacement key and programming. The parts dept should be able to cut spare keys from your VIN and the shop can program. I also would suggest you get at least 2 additional keys, just so you can program additional keys if you need them.

Ran into the same issue tonight. I ordered a few cheap keys from China off of Ebay. Wife wanted a pink key....anyways. I only have one key so I couldnt program it. Going to call the dealer in the morning to get a quote. Any idea if I can have the dealer program the ebay keys or must I buy a ford key?

FYI I also got some key fobs off of eBay for cheap and they programmed just fine.

they should be able to program any key with the correct chip. The question is if they will program non-Ford keys. If they program a second Ford key, you should be able to program any key with the correct chip. I've personally found the Ford key will always work while 1 out of 3 key I got off ebay didn't. That was when I had my 99 Ranger.

I bought two keys and one new FOB one bay for like 18 bucks shipped. Took them to local locksmith and he charged me like $50 to cut and program both keys so I now have 3 working ones. This way if I lose one, I will still have 2 and could program the next one myself. the FOBs you can program yourself, takes like 20 seconds. Call around to several lock shops, they will usually always beat the dealer price for cut/program on the keys. The process takes 10 minutes in the truck with their computer thingy to chip the keys to your truck. Make sure you buy 2 additional keys so you can have 3 total.
