Default Need a point in the right direction

I'm new to this site and haven't owned my 08 F150 5.4 3V very long. Bout a week ago, the engine started banging/clanging/sounding like a diesel. It ran smooth on acceleration, but made that noise on deceleration. After a few minutes, the CEL came on. Pulled into the first available place to have the codes scanned. It showed P0022. 1st choice was a VTS (variable valve Timing Solinoid) the other choice was the Cam Phazer.

They replaced the VTS on one side but the condition continued. Replaced the other. Now it runs smooth for about 20 minutes before the noise returned.

Tried Ford. They said "New $7,000 engine".

Went to a trusted shop. They replaced the Cam Phazer on one side. Again, runs fine for 20 minutes or so, then the noise BUT no CEL.

Getting frustrated.

Sounds like oil starvation got the best of you. It will probably take a lot more than just a replacement phaser to fix that, but it sure will NOT cost you $7,000.

Who the hell replaces the phaser on just one side? Do it right and replace both phasers , timing components , vct solenoids, and drop the oil pan and clean out the pump screen and pan. All for under $1000 at home.

^^^this. If your chain or chains are still loose or oil flow is subpar, then you'll still have all kinds of clatter and ruin phasers. Read this thread:
