Default Need Help: Replacing AC Compressor & Accumulator/Drier

So I've searched and searched and searched. Can anyone point me to a write up on how to replace the AC compressor and the accumulator/drier?

I have an 04 FX4, got my parts at a great price at $150, when the shop wanted to charge me $487, and then another $220 for labor. Found another shop that would install my parts, but they want over $400 for labor. Needless to say, I'd rather tackle this myself if I can and save over $500. Any help is appreciated!

Do you have a haynes (or similar manual)?
I used that to do mine, worked well for the most part.

The manual I have just tells me what to diagnose when I have an issue, not a step by step manual on how to take stuff apart

Side note- If you plan on keeping this truck, I'd pick up a good manual.
Not sure about write ups though, haven't seen one. Took me about 6 hours to do, (It was July, needed breaks lol)
Hardest part for me was the accumulator (only because the quick disconnects were seized). Make sure you swap orifice tube as well.

Yeah the accumulator I got came with the orifice tube. I have almost 140k miles, while I'm in there should I might as well replace the clutch or anything else while I'm in there?

Did you vacuum your system before hand yourself and also recharge it yourself?

I did the labor, had the shop take care of refrigerant. Does you compressor come pre-oiled? I wouldn't waste money replacing parts that don't need replacing.

So do I have to have it vacuumed before I swap anything out? Sorry but this is the first time I've ever dealt with any AC issues on any of my vehicles and just trying to get all the steps down. The compressor doesn't come pre-oiled, but it does comes with oil.

I took it to a shop and had them evac system. (EPA doesn't want you to manually purge.lol) Swapped all parts, took it back, then they did a flush and fill.

You're supposed to have the system purged or captured not to say that people haven't done the old "I'll just look over my shoulder and let it go in my driveway". If its leaked out already then that's another story. Ask the garage beforehand what they charge to purge and refill the system
