Default need help from a mechanic. about diff. gears.

my trucks trans went out within a year 2 times. i have 3:55 gears. i was told to get 3:73 gears put in it. so i wont mess up the trans again. and not loose gas mileage. what do u think.

37X13.50 inch nitto mud grapplers. 20 inch rims. with a 9 inch lift. with 3:55 gears. what gears would be best over all gas and performace. that wont tear up my transmission again.

Who is telling you to get 3:73's? Also the higher the gear the crappier the mileage, but the better low end torque and less top end

im gonna say at least 4:56, maybe even 4:88, i dont see how you can even worry about gas mileage with a 9 inch lift and 37's, if you want MPG get a ranger

4.56's will put your truck back to stock like rpm ratio. however when you factor in the tremendous weight on 37's on 20's and if you do any towing, 4.88's are the best option. also 4.88's are the biggest gears that will fit in the front diff. you will get like 13 on the highway running 4.88's but if you want mileage go back to stock, the words best mpgs and 37's shouldn't be in the same sentence
