Default which mods for a rookie

looks for some good HP gains. im not new to cars but im not aware of what our f150 v8 engines respond to the best. and im looking for a good size lift. which is the best? around 4-6".. and then what size tires and rims would be recommended? i plan on putting straight pipe out the back with a custom X pipe maybe. i want it loud but good. might throw some 12' glasspacks on idk. what will happen if i remove all the cats? what codes will be thrown. will i have to get a sct tuner to remove them? any engine mods suggestions are very welcome. please help out. thanks andy

I highly suggest that you complement the exhaust with an intake as well. Every athlete needs to breathe in as well as out!

I wouldn't eliminate the front cats or the o2 sensors. If you want it loud, bet magnaflow high flow cats, don't go bigger and 2 1/2" exhaust. 2 1/4 would be great, but hard to find and it you want sound go with dynamax bullets.

here's a link - interesting and complete;

You didn't mention the year/engine on your truck so we could help with the intake. I would just go gotts mod for now, or go with an afe intake with a dry filter and enclosed airbox. Stay away from the oiled filters as they tend to coat the maf if oiled to excess (easy to do) and screw up the a/f ratio.

If you do the cai and the exhaust, you will need a tuner with custom tunes written.
You can get that information at the time of purchase from the manufacturer web site.
good luck, have fun. I don't recommend going with straight pipe, many states have laws about modding the exhaust, mainly for sound.

And elimination the cats, if you have emissions testing it might not be a good idea, especially when your computer will probably throw codes.
