miss under load
I have had a rough time with my truck lately,2004 F150 XLT 5.4 3v. about a month ago started running bad (at idle and under load) I got gas(a full tank) that had water in it I know this because when I changed the fuel filter I drained it into a glass jar so I could confirm. During the tank of bad gas I got codes of miss fire cyl 3 & 4, random miss fire, and a lean code. Now bad gas out filled with good gas and a bottle of inj. cleaner burnt through 1/4 tank of good gas and still runs like crap under load only so now I have codes mis fire cyl 1 & 2, in park and netural the engine revs just fine with no miss. So Ithought maybe coils so I switched coils from cyl 5 & 6 to 1 & 2 no change still mis fire on 1 & 2. I have also pulled fuel rail and switched injectors still no change. Now I know the first question is have you changed plugs. No because idels fine in park and can rev engine and hold at 5k rpm's with no miss. Not looking forward to plug change with all the issues I have read about. However going to try it this weekend because I am running out of options of what the problem is. Truck has 95k miles I bought it with 78k miles and the dealer replaced cam synronizers, guides and chains both sides at 79k miles under the warranty I bought. Also have checked fuel pressure and it was with in spec's. Nor does the truck have a leaking injector. Just remembered I also have changed the VCT on the side with the codes. Any ideas welcome.
