Default Misfireing

Hello,
My 2006 F150 King Ranch 5.4 skips " misfires " when driving @ 40 to 45 mph and rpm 1000 to 1100 but quits when you turn off overdrive or give it gas and get above 45 mph.

The Ford Dealer ship says I should trade it in " OF COURSE "but I love my truck and want to fix it but thay say it cant be fixed.

The Truck has 170,000 hwy miles and the dealer has replaced 4 or 5 coils and 3 or 4 plugs over the past 2 years . The other Coils and plugs are the original and I'm thinking it my be best to go ahead and replace ALL COILS AND PLUGS to see if this will fix it.

One mechanic shop said he is 98% sure this would fix it and gave me a price for parts and labor to replace 8 Coils and 8 plugs for $1,386.00

I looked on line and found that I could purchase set of Champion Double Platinum Plugs For $145 and 8 Coils for $185 for a total of $330
I then called another reputable machanic and he said labor would be $150.
THIS WOULD BE A TOTAL OF ONLY $480 verses $1,386

ANY OPINIONS on wether replacing all coils and plugs would help and if there would be any difference in quality of parts the $1,386 machanic would use verses parts I could get myself online ? Thanks

I had the same problem with my 05 5.4 90k earlier this year. changed the plugs and havent had a problem since. the second estimate sounds like a good deal to me. with the mileage you are way over due.

Don't get the Champion plugs. Get the new Motorcraft ones.

Why do you recommend the Motorcraft ?

Unless it's a new released product and from what I've read on this forum, the new one piece design Motorcraft plugs are for the 08+ F150. They are not designed to be used with the 2004-2007 engines. Not sure why, but I've looked at the compatibility for the new MC plugs and our trucks are not on them, which blows. Using a different brand plug besides MC is totally up to u. And the opinions on this issue r like aholes. Everyone has one. Let me know how the Champs hold up. I'd rather deal with the one piece design than 2 piece.

Use the MC SP515 plugs and coat the shank with anti-seize as directed in the TSB on spark plugs. DO NOT coat the threads. There has been reports that the champions cause problems after very little use. Plus the MC plugs are only 8$ a piece.
