Default Minor a/c problems

A couple of weeks ago the A/C in my truck partially gave out on me. It still blows ice cold air, but the 3rd setting is messed up. Settings 1, 2, and 4 all work fine and setting 3 still technically works, but it only blows out air at the same level as setting 2. Hopefully that makes sense.

Basically, I still have cold air on 3 of my 4 settings. And I'm wondering if you guys can help me get the 3rd setting back to normal.

Thanks

My heat is the same way. 1 blows like it should. 2 blows just like 1, if not less. Then 3 a d 4 work fine. Problems could be related?

It's been a few months, but I wanted to dust off this thread and see if I can finally fix this problem.

Techrep seems to have identified my problem, but now I'm wondering how I fix it. Hopefully this is something I can take care of on my own.

Sounds like it's the HVAC control unit itself.

This seems to be a common problem for Fords. I had an 06 Mustang with the same problem. Dealer just replaced the HVAC control unit.

Then My 08 F150 would only blow freezing cold or boiling hot. Took it in for the Blend Door TSB. Turned out to be the HVAC Control unit....Dealer replaced. All is well.

There are a couple of fixes relating to fan speed....one is when the low speeds don't work. This ends up being the resistor, which is located behind the glove box area (drop the glove box down by squeezing the sides). If the switch itself is bad, you'll be ticked, as you have to replace the fan/temp switches as an assembly. I only know of one person that took his assembly apart and soldered a new switch into the circuit board.
When you remove the radio bezel (center dash piece), you'll find that you remove a couple of wire connections, then 4 screws to remove this assembly I'm refering to.

You may get lucky and find a used one on Ebay. Just ask the seller if the switches were all good when he/she removed it to sell. Most of the time the bezel/switch/lighter is all together and sold as a used item on Ebay.
