Default Minimum Brake Pad Thickness?

Anyone know the spec for minimum thickness of the brake pads before replacing?

I'm getting the 'worn pad warning squeal' during the last few feet of braking to a stop. Pulled a front and rear wheel off and there's more pad material than I expected- about 6-8/32.

squeal has nothing to do with pad thickness...usually means they are glazed (low quality pads, alot of heavy braking)

O.K., that makes sense since I've been hauling a lot of landscape material lately.

But how 'bout minimum thickness spec, anyone? I already know about rule of thumb guidelines, I'm looking for a 'service manual' kind of number.

Thanks, Atom. That's exactly what I was looking for.

I noticed it says you don't need new pads if you machine the rotors. Conversely, I guess you wouldn't necessarily need to machine rotors when it is time for new pads.

Any official guidelines for when the rotors should be machined? I noticed my rotors are developing rusty ridges where the pads don't reach all the way to the outside or inside of the rotor surface. I could see this causing some bedding-in issues when it is time for new pads.
