Miles per tank on a ext cab

I have a 05 fx4 extended cab, 4 spd, I feel my gas mileage is worst then it should be, what are Ppl getting? I give it the babe foot, and it's around 280 miles a tank! And it's half high wah and half city... Buddy super crew truck gets 500 miles a tank, both are stock! I know there tanks a hair bigger but not 120 miles worth! What can I do to get better
instead of going by miles per tank, hand calculate the fuel mileage on both trucks over the next three fill ups. I bet they are not that far apart. I suspect your friend has the larger 30 some gallon tank.

i get about 325 miles per tank out of my 05 extended cab 4x4 5.4. i fill it up before the low fuel light comes on. i usually average about 15 mpg. i do half highway half city and hardly ever let it get above 3000 rpm. if i hot rod it, which i used to do, i get 12 mpg
